SPRINKLE'S
BLUEBERRY FARM WATCH FOR 2025 SEASON
OPENING IN MID JUNE |
||
SPRINKLE'S BLUEBERRY FARM
We now have added 1500 new bushes of which 900 are now over 5 years old and have reached a mature full production stage for pickers this year. Crop is looking good! We are seeing an earlier bloom this year and so far have escaped the late March frost damage. Hope the next few weeks remain frost free. Keep watching as we expect to open in late June. I will try and make a short Video to show the work we have accomplished since the video above was made. I will add the video and updates to the field report page so watch for all future updates there. We have added a number of new varieties as you have noticed in your visits to us since our renovation began. If you get a chance drive out while the field is in full bloom and take a look.
Sprinkle's
Blueberry Farm in Winston Salem, North Carolina is set
on a rolling hill in western Forsyth County ( 5 miles west of Winston-Salem, N.C.). " Blueberry Hill
" is the retirement project of Alfred
and Wilma Sprinkle. In 2013 we lost Dad who had continued to be active throughout his 90 years. We lost Mom in 2023 at the age of 97. Both enjoyed their later years on the farm where mom was born. The family has taken over maintenance on the field and is in the process of restoring it. The drip irrigation system was replaced in 2017 in preparation for replanting. We are busy pruning and mulching. A benefit of irrigation, other than for establishing our new plants, is that we were able to extend our picking season with larger berries and a more bountiful crop during the droughts that always seem to come just as we start picking.
The misting plant bed has
yielded good results as can be seen after 4 months. The small cuttings have
successfully rooted and even put on some growth. These young bushes will be ready to transplant in the field after they are transplanted to a nursery bed where they will stay for another 18 months We trust you will notice the gradual changes as we continue our work. |
